Charlie Dy was born in New York City on February 9, 1976, to Dr. Thomas Charles Dy and Mary Day. Charles grew up in the Rhode Island town of Middletown. His mother taught piano at Penfield School in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
Dy’s father is a retired music history professor at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island. His mother is of English, Irish, and Welsh heritage, while his father is of Irish and Italian ancestry. His elder sister, Alice, has a Ph.D. in singing.
