Origin of The All The Disney Princesses
In December 1999, Andy Moore became the president of Disney Consumer Products. In fact, soon after his appointment, he noticed that many girls attending the Disney on Ice show were dressed in princess dresses. However, these dresses were not authentic Disney merchandise. Therefore, this inspired him to instruct the company to craft a legitimate Disney Princess franchise.
Originally there were ten Disney Princesses in this franchise: Snow White, Cinderella, Tinker Bell, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Esmeralda, and Mulan. However, Tinker Bell and Esmeralda were soon removed from the lineup. The launching of the franchise was also very unconventional. Andy and his team did not make use of any focus groups. Rather they relied on minimal marketing. However, with time, it became the top seller of consumer entertainment products globally.
