The dormant crater is exposed, presenting a lunar-like landscape, while other sections of the park are covered in subtropical rainforests, which are home to threatened species. This crater began out like a volcano but has been extinct for more than one hundred and fifty thousand years. Take water, and you need a flashlight because the tunnel is not lit. The best time for this hike is not the middle of the day when the sun is hottest, because there is no shade along the trail.

This canyon has a width that is more than one mile, is roughly thirty-six hundred feet deep, and has a length which spans about ten miles. The views in this canyon are unbelievable, especially at sunrise and sunset.
